The First Lodge Insider

We’re thrilled to share our first-ever Lodge Insider, Flockhill’s seasonal newsletter for those with an adventurous spirit and refined taste.


Summer on the South Island comes with unparalleled natural beauty and outdoor exploration. The region comes alive with vibrant hues, 

as lush landscapes transform. Warm temperatures provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and river adventures. 

As our team grows, so does our excitement for Flockhill’s second summer season.

We recently announced our new Flockhill Villas, with reservations open now for December 2024. As the one-year countdown begins, 

we are proud to share recent media accolades, including Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and Robb Report as well as a prestigious 

architecture award given to the team at Warren and Mahoney for their work on the Homestead.

In other exciting news, we have welcomed acclaimed Kiwi-born chef, Taylor Cullen, who will lead the Flockhill restaurant team.

Taylor has been recognised as an emerging global talent and was formerly head chef at Matt Moran’s Chiswick in Sydney. Taylor’s passion 

for seasonal produce makes Flockhill a dream job for him; he is used to working from the garden, designing his menus based on what the 

season is providing, and with a focus on hyper-locally sourced produce. This will prove a challenge at our High Country lodge due to the 

temperature fluctuations and altitude. However, creating microclimates using greenhouses and landscaping will make 

growing produce for the lodge achievable to a high standard.
